Ride the Roof of the World
Riding motorcycles along the Pamir Highway is one of the world’s greatest adventures, taking you through the legendary “Roof of the World.” This guided motorcycle trip crosses Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan, following the ancient Silk Road and exploring some of the most remote and breathtaking landscapes in Central Asia. From the high-altitude passes of the Pamirs to the vast valleys of the Wakhan Corridor, this journey promises a mix of challenge, culture, and discovery.
We will ride past snow-capped peaks, turquoise alpine lakes, and ancient caravanserais that once hosted Silk Road traders. On this stage of our Pamir Highway motorcycle adventure, we’ll ride from Osh towards Khujand in Tajikistan, crossing the border at Batken. The route takes us through fertile valleys and rugged mountain scenery, with winding roads that connect Kyrgyzstan to the Fergana Valley. After completing the border formalities, we continue our ride into northern Tajikistan, discovering new landscapes and local culture on the way to Khujand, one of the oldest cities in Central Asia.
On this stage, we’ll ride from Khujand to Dushanbe, crossing the mountain landscapes of northern Tajikistan. The road takes us through passes, tunnels, and beautiful valleys before reaching the capital. In Dushanbe, we’ll enjoy a well-deserved afternoon rest, with time to explore the city’s boulevards, monuments, and lively atmosphere.
On this stage, we’ll leave Dushanbe and head southeast towards Kalaikhum, following winding mountain roads that lead us deeper into the Pamirs. At around midday, we’ll start riding along the Panj River, the natural frontier with Afghanistan, and pass the famous “IR Afghanistan” sign. The route takes us through remote villages along the valleys of the Panj River, offering our first real taste of Tajikistan’s rugged mountain landscapes before reaching the small town of Kalaikhum.
On this stage, we’ll ride from Kalaikhum to Khorog, again following the Panj River, the natural frontier with Afghanistan. The road winds along the river valley, offering glimpses of life on the Afghan side. Along the way, we’ll pass several villages and enjoy the dramatic landscapes before reaching Khorog, the capital of the Gorno-Badakhshan region.
On this stage, we’ll ride into one of the most remote areas of the Pamirs. The route takes us along scenic roads, with plenty of time to soak in the landscape. We’ll stop in Iskashim, a small town known for its lively bazaar and as a hub for local traders crossing the border with Afghanistan, before continuing to our overnight stop in Langar.
On this stage, we’ll leave the Panj River and the views of Afghanistan behind as we climb deeper into the high-altitude heart of the Pamirs. We’ll ride from Langar to Murghab, spending most of the day above 3,300 meters on rugged mountain roads and vast plateaus. Along the way, we’ll pass traditional nomadic settlements and experience the stark, breathtaking landscapes that make the Pamir Highway legendary.
On this stage, we’ll leave Murghab and climb to the highest point of the trip at 4,665 meters, riding along high-altitude plateaus and past glaciers with breathtaking views of the Pamirs. After crossing back into Kyrgyzstan, we’ll descend toward Tulpar Kul, a stunning alpine lake at the foot of Pik Lenin. Along the way, we’ll pass remote mountain settlements and see nomadic herders, experiencing life at extreme altitudes, before arriving at Tulpar Kul to rest and take in the serene beauty of the lake and surrounding peaks.
On this final stage, we’ll descend from Tulpar Kul through scenic mountain roads, arriving in Osh by midday. Once back in the city, we’ll return the motorcycles and have time to relax and explore a bit of Osh before gathering for a farewell dinner, celebrating the incredible journey along the Pamir Highway and sharing stories from this unforgettable adventure.
On the final day, after breakfast, it’s time to depart from Osh.
